Clever Cupcakes Review

Another new cupcake shop opened up in the area and I wanted to try them out. I recently reviewed Big City Cupcakes and wanted to see how these guys would compare. Clever Cupcakes advertise themselves as using all natural ingredients, no preservatives or artificial colors, etc.

The four flavours sampled are, clockwise from top left: Double Chocolate, Coconut Cream Cheese, Mango Cream Cheese, and Lemon Vanilla.

Overall, these cupcakes were much better than those at Big City Cupcakes. The icing was really good, light, and very flavourful.

The cupcakes themselves could have been a bit more moist, but they weren't dry. I guess my only complaint would be lack of variety in the flavours. I could tell that both the coconut and mango cupcakes used the same batter (and likely the same batter for their carrot cupcake - assuming they have one), the only difference was the coconut flakes.

Same thing with the icing. All of the icings were very similar and I didn't notice lemon, coconut, or mango flavours in them. Still though, the icings were really tasty. Especially the chocolate one! Very silky and flavourful, not too sweet.

The price of these cupcakes was significantly less than Big City Cupcakes... only $2 each! I actually thought these were underpriced and could have easily gone for $2.50 or even $3.
