This cupcake shop opened up recently in a mall near my place, so I wanted to check it out. We picked up 4 flavors. Clockwise from top right: Celebration, Truffle, Toffee Crunch, Peanut Butter.
Celebration:
Vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream.
Cupcake was a bit dry but had good flavor. The icing was ok, but tasted very heavy. I couldn't tell for sure, but it seemed to be made mostly of shortening.
Truffle:
Chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache filling, chocolate frosting, and chocolate shavings.
Cupcake was dry, but the ganache and shavings tasted pretty good. Very rich and heavy.
Toffee Crunch:
Chocolate cake with toffee caramel filling, chocolate frosting and toffee crunch on top.
Cupcake a bit dry, but the caramel filling tasted good. Frosting was also pretty good but we didn't like the consistency of crunchy toffee pieces on top.
Peanut Butter:
Chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting.
Again, the cupcake was dry and tasted like it came from a mix. The icing was decent, but not very flavourful, and could have had more peanut butter. Also very heavy.
Overall, I was not impressed with these, and wouldn't go there again. The cupcakes were all dry, not very flavourful and the icing was very heavy. My stomach was upset after eating just one of these and I didn't want to have any more. Which is not really the feeling you want to leave your customers with.
After doing a bit of research, I found out that these are not actually baked in house - they're baked elsewhere and delivered to each location. So that likely affected the freshness and why they were dry.
Additionally, I found these overpriced considering they weren't very good! $15 for 4 cupcakes! Not worth it in my opinion, but they must be doing decently well as there are a few franchises open in the lower mainland...
