I don't even know how many times Ryan and I have asked each other this question...mostly coming from him and his constant need for challenge, fulfillment, and figuring out his life's purpose. I naturally got roped into lengthy discussions about this and it led us down many roads - analyzing our skills and strengths to identify what careers or hobbies would fit our personality profiles through countless quizzes and assessments. No matter how many of these assessments I did, trying to find something that sounded remotely interesting or something that I'd like to pursue, nothing stood out. *Nothing* sounded appealing. God, how depressing. Apparently I don't like anything. Great...
Through all of the assessments we did, one suggestion stood out to me: "Think back to when you were a kid, what did you love to do?". Nothing came to mind (nothing practical anyhow), but this question remained in the back of my mind.
I still can't remember exactly how I got into cake decorating... I think a light just went on one day while I was watching the Food Network. I love watching cake decorating shows, come to think of it, I've always liked them. I loved baking when I was young and was always interested in cake decorating. "Think back to when you were a kid, what did you love to do?" Maybe I was onto something.
I did a bit of research and noticed that Michael's offered cake decorating classes. Ryan, being as wonderful and supportive as he is, bought me some cake supplies and a gift certificate to Michael's for my birthday. His card said "Bake me an awesome cake :)". So that was it, I was off to Michael's. I picked up a bunch of supplies and got some info on their classes...I was hesitant about signing up - the first class started in a week! I'm not an impulsive person and generally need to do a lot of research before I jump into something. Ryan said "we're here, go for it!" and I did. That was back in November and I haven't looked back.
